Facebook, Twitter part of your job spec as political reporter

Wanna be a political reporter? There’s a job opening at The Star Tribune in Minneapolis, but you’d better brush up on your social networking skills.

The advert stresses an “enthusiasm for communicating political news on many different platforms – from print to online to mobile to social networking media“.

The social networking component is not limited to disseminating your stories, but you will have to trawl the likes of hashtag.org and Twitter Search to see what’s on the public’s mind. (Twitter is a good barometer of public discourse)

“This reporter must take advantage of the intersection of politics and new technology, watching for trends in how the public is reacting to politics and government, and fully exploring that through coverage.”
